Northern Manor Adult Day Health Care Program failed to provide services to residents that the home listed in their Medicaid file. They went so far as to have employees falsify records to correspond with the fake services. The nursing home also failed to hire qualified employees that could provide social work and give psychological assessments. In other words, this facility stole money from the government and failed to provide the care needed to their residents. There has finally been a settlement of $6.5 million reached to be paid back to the State of New York.
The ultimate justice was reached however when the Nursing Home agreed to shut its doors and help current residents find new facilities. Hopefully the owners and employees that stole from the government and failed to care for their residents will be criminally prosecuted and go to jail. This would be the ultimate punishment and deterrent to other individuals and corporations caring for our Countries most vulnerable, the elderly.
The services and programs that are provided by the Medicaid program are supposed to help each specific resident and their needs. Because of this, when nursing homes are falsifying documents and not giving the services they say that they provide, it is time to call a lawyer. This is an abuse of power and money. When looking into a nursing home, make sure to check with both Medicaid and the home to see if the services and quality of care match. If they do not, that is when there could be a possibility of fraud. By bringing finding to a lawyer, justice can be served to the nursing home.
